InnoMind® Competition
HKSTPC Potential Techno-Project Award – Your Eye
The visually impaired population in Hong Kong consist of an estimated 2 million people, however tactile paths are often taken up by obstacles, and the flawed traditional mobility canes are also unable to detect obstacles above, causing injuries and inconvenience.
From the safety perspective, the newly launched smart glasses are equipped with programming circuit boards, lenses, an infrared sensor, vibration motors and buzzers. It uses the CNN convolution neural network to firstly identify object appearance, then utilise the LSTM memory model to predict the movement speed of obstacles such as mobile trucks, and calculate the collision risk and a corresponding warning signal.
In ensuring equal experience, artificial intelligence is incorporated into the hardware above for a more personalised experience, including special features such as art exhibition tours, football commentaries, facial recognition that identify names and appearance features of friends etc. These allow the visually impaired to live life to the fullest by meeting friends and exploring personal interests.
