Dare To Change
HKSTPC Silver Technopreneur Award – Seekr
Seekr is a wearable device designed by Vidi Labs Limited, a start-up based in Hong Kong Aiming to provide visually impaired people (VIPs) and the elderly with greater independence through augmented vision, Seekr uses AI algorithms to detect objects and text, offering hands-free navigation, privacy, and a discreet and trendy design. With around 200,000 visually impaired people in Hong Kong, Seekr provides a unique value proposition by enabling VIPs to identify objects and read text without external assistance, creating a safer and more comfortable experience.
Seekr aims to offer a continuous, voice-triggered assistive mode with personalized functions such as object and text detection, as well as path navigation. This will be achieved through edge-facilitated augmented vision, providing VIPs with a guided map to navigate indoor and outdoor spaces.
Seekr's value proposition is centered on creating a sense of independence and dignity for VIPs. The device can identify objects from a distance, ensuring the user's safety and comfort in public spaces. Additionally, Seekr's trendy and discreet design addresses the stigmatization associated with traditional assistive technology.
Seekr's spatial awareness feature helps VIPs to identify the distance of objects in their surroundings. This is useful for finding items independently, such as vacant seats or nearby tables, in new environments. It can also be used to locate a queue or determine when the person in front has moved, avoiding uncomfortable situations like being pushed from behind.
Seekr is a unique and innovative wearable device designed to assist VIPs and the elderly in gaining independence and dignity. Its hands-free, lightweight, and trendy design, combined with AI algorithms and augmented vision, offers a compelling value proposition for VIPs in Hong Kong and beyond.
