“Treasure Food, Know Your Food”

Hong Kong produces 3,350 tonnes of food waste daily, leading to losses of over 60 million HKD. As part of the local community, it is our responsibility to alleviate the pressure on the global food system. We have designed the “Treasure Food, Know Your Food” app to help households reduce the disposal of expired food. Our app constantly reminds users to cherish food, reduce and make good use of food waste, while choosing the right food to eat. The app has four main functions: recording refrigerator inventory, reminding users about food expiry dates, customized recipes and supermarket inventory notifications. To promote our app, we will collaborate with food influencers, launching a “virtual kitchen” function. Through big data analysis, we will recommend their cooking tutorial videos to users with similar ingredients. Our app can prevent households, even corporations, from wasting intact food. At the same time, the app will increase the supermarket sales on food that will soon expire, allowing users to benefit from discounted prices. The above will increase green awareness in the community and help to drive a green and sustainable local economy.
