Silver Award – Palsara

Team Palsara is developing an AI-powered ultrasonic fruit and vegetable washing system to address pesticide residues, inconvenience, inconsistent cleaning results, and re-contamination of washing water in household and light commercial settings. The system integrates four core mechanisms: ultrasonic cavitation to detach contaminants from produce surfaces, a food-grade cleaning solution to disperse hydrophobic residues, AI image recognition to automatically adjust washing frequency, duration, and cleaning-solution dosage according to produce type, and a staged drainage system to remove detached contaminants from the washing water and reduce re-adsorption risk.

The project’s innovation lies not in a single technology, but in integrating food science, surface chemistry, AI vision, and water-quality control into an affordable and commercializable smart appliance. Target users include health-conscious Hong Kong families, households with children, and light commercial users. With a HK$1499 hardware price supported by recurring cleaning-solution cartridge revenue, Palsara combines public-health value, research translation, and scalable market potential.
